Koh Tachai, also known as “The Dome,” is a top dive site in the area. With submerged pinnacles, massive granite boulders, and thriving coral reefs, it’s a marvel to discover!.
Located close to Koh Bon, it’s home to stunning coral gardens, rays, leopard sharks, nurse sharks and hawksbill turtles. Some divers might even get lucky and spot whale sharks and manta rays.
This dive site is a diver’s playground. The underwater ridge ‘Twin Peaks’ offers exciting drift dives with strong currents and incredible marine life.
With stunning topography and excellent visibility, Koh Tachai is a favorite among experienced divers looking for big fish action and thrilling underwater encounters.
At King Andaman Scuba Diving, we include Koh Tachai in our premier itineraries, providing divers with the chance to experience its stunning topography and legendary marine life encounters.
The Underwater Landscape
Koh Tachai is a massive submerged ridge consisting of two main pinnacles. The southern pinnacle is the largest, featuring a plateau at around 12 meters that is covered in a carpet of sea fans and hard corals.
The site is famous for its massive granite boulders, which create deep crevices, tunnels, and dramatic swim-throughs. Because the site sits in open water, it is exposed to nutrient-rich currents, which support a thriving and diverse ecosystem.
Marine Life Highlights
If you are looking for “big fish” action, Koh Tachai is the place to be. Its proximity to deep water makes it a prime location for pelagic encounters.
The Giants: Koh Tachai is a hotspot for Manta Rays and Whale Sharks. These majestic giants often visit the cleaning stations along the ridge.
Shark Encounters: It is common to see Leopard Sharks (Zebra Sharks) resting on the sandy bottom, as well as Nurse Sharks and White-tip Reef Sharks cruising the perimeter.
Abundant Fish Life: Expect to be surrounded by swirling schools of Chevron Barracuda, Blue-fin Trevally, and large Batfish.
Macro Treasures: Look closely among the corals for Hawksbill Turtles and ornate Ghost Pipefish.
